Coventry clothing store to close for good due to ‘debt issues’

A popular clothing store in Coventry has closed for good. Select has closed at West Orchards shopping center on Smithford Way.

Select closed its doors for the last time last Friday (June 21). Stock has been cleared from inside the building, it is understood.

Staff handed over the keys to the premises on Monday (June 24). CoventryLive understands the business is in a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA).

Company Voluntary Arrangements (CVAs) are an insolvency process specific to the UK. According to GOV.UK, they give businesses a way to pay off their debts over a set period.

Select will soon be replaced by a brand new clothing store called C&S. While an exact opening date has not been announced, the retailer is said to be opening “soon.”

Andy Talbot, Senior Asset Manager at West Orchards, told CoventryLive: “Select closed last Friday (June 21) and handed the keys back on Monday (June 24). We understand that Select is in a CVA. A new C&S business will soon open a fashion outlet.”
