Birmingham police are asking for help solving a homicide in the fall of 2023

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham police detectives are asking for the public’s help solving a murder that occurred in November.

According to the Birmingham Police Department, officers responded to a call of a person shot at the intersection of 26th Street Ensley and Avenue C around 4:01 pm that Saturday. Police at the scene found LaKevin Debruce lying in the road next to a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.


Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported Debruce to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. BPD said its preliminary investigation shows a person in the area heard gunshots, saw Debruce fall from a vehicle in the roadway and called 911.

No one is in custody in connection with this case. Those with information about the homicide are urged to call BPD at 205-254-1764 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777. Crime Stoppers could offer up to $5,000 for tips.
