Eurovision Song Contest 2024 full results as winner announced and complains of ‘not pleasant’ experience

Switzerland’s Nemo won the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo, Sweden. The non-binary singer, 24, in a pink skirt and fluffy jumper, balanced on a tilting metal disc as they performed opera and dance mash-up The Code on Saturday night. Accepting the trophy in tears, Nemo said: “I want to thank you very much – I hope this contest can live up to its promise and continue to support peace and dignity for every person in this world.”

The final results were Switzerland with 591 points, while Croatia’s Baby Lasagna with Tim Tagi Dim’s catchy and outrageous Rim received 547 points, and Ukraine’s Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil with their emotional and religious song Teresa & Maria scored 453 of points.

The competition was mired in controversy over the participation of Israel’s Eden Golan, and a large group of demonstrators were outside the Malmo Arena as the proceedings took place. Several protesters were also detained and taken away by police, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.

Earlier in the day, Dutch contestant Joost Klein was disqualified by Eurovision organizers following an incident between the singer and a camerawoman. This move was strongly criticized by the Dutch station AVROTROS, which called the punishment “very heavy and disproportionate”.

Ireland’s Bambie Thug, who entered in gothic Doomsday Blue, received 136 points and finished in sixth place. British contestant Olly Alexander didn’t finish last with pop dance track Dizzy, but received the dreaded ‘nil points’ from the public vote. He came in 18th place.
