Leeds United were the lowest point – the former White admits

Weston McKennie has admitted playing for Leeds United was the lowest point of his career as nothing went to plan at Elland Road.

The American midfielder spent the second half of the 2022/23 season at Leeds and was unimpressive during his time at Elland Road.

Leeds were eventually relegated from the Premier League and McKennie returned to Juventus last summer, where he was a regular in the squad.

The midfielder admitted that Leeds was probably the lowest point of his career and indicated that his performance levels at Elland Road were not good enough.

He also pointed out that the managerial merry-go-round during his short spell at Leeds also ensured that nothing went to plan.

“My time at Leeds was probably one of my lowest points, if not the lowest point in my professional career”McKennie told The Athletic.

“I always look at the positive because I was at Juventus, playing week in week out and maybe I developed a bit of comfort or complacency, knowing I was going to play at the weekend.

“Going to Leeds and having the performance we’ve had there and the way it’s just turned out overall – four managers in five months, it’s just not going to go to plan or how I imagined it.”

Juventus wanted to sell him this summer but a move to Aston Villa fell through after failing to negotiate an exit fee with the Serie A giants.

It remains to be seen whether he will move from the Serie A giants in the ongoing transfer window.
