Leeds United midfielder Jamie Shackleton reportedly agreed a free transfer to Sheffield United this week despite talks over a new contract at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke is set to welcome back his first-team squad from Leeds on Monday for pre-season and there are a few who won’t be there as he secures away transfers.

The club’s retained list revealed that Sam Byram is staying on for another year under his former Norwich City boss, while the club were in talks with two others over possible extensions.

Jamie Shackleton will reject Leeds contract and move to Sheffield United

Jamie Shackleton was one of two players the club confirmed were in talks to extend his stay at Elland Road.

Having broken through under Marcelo Bielsa in 2018, Shackleton’s deal is set to expire on June 30 (Sunday) with no concrete update on his decision with that alleged offer.

Will Leeds be promoted next season?

However, Football Insider have now shared a major update on his future, revealing that he has agreed a deal to join Sheffield United on a free transfer.

The Blades return to the Championship after their miserable season in the Premier League, with Chris Wilder keen to rebuild the squad ahead of a promotion bid.

Shackleton is not missed at all for Leeds if he leaves

Farke was keen to stress Shackleton’s importance at the start of last season, but the truth is he was only playing because Leeds had no other options to choose from.

As soon as signings were made and Leeds’ depth recovered from that slow start, he was more or less out of the picture apart from a few cameos.

His injury record is pretty pathetic and he’s never been a standout performer, even if he was tremendously committed to it last season.

The Blades add depth to their side but he is not a signing that will send shockwaves through the Championship promotion race.
