Arne Slot Liverpool appointment ‘complicated by Euro 2024’ amid coaching team plans

Arne Slot insists his appointment as Liverpool boss is only a “matter of days” away, but a complication remains over his backroom team. The Reds have reached an agreement with Feyenoord for a compensation package for the Dutch boss.

Slot has made no secret of his desire to move to Anfield, with both clubs having two games left in this campaign. An announcement is expected to be made at the end of the Premier League and Eredivisie seasons next Sunday.

He plans to bring three Feyenoord coaches with him in assistant Sipke Hulshoff, coach Etiënne Reijnen and head of performance Ruben Peeters. But The Mirror reports there are issues surrounding their potential arrivals.

It is claimed Liverpool will have to shell out a further $2.5m (£2.3m/€2.3m) for Slot’s backroom staff on top of the $14m (£11m sterling/€13 million) which has already been agreed. The Reds would like the new coaching staff to start their contracts on July 1.

But that could be a problem for Hulshoff, who is also Ronald Koeman’s assistant with the Dutch national team. He will be at the European Championships this summer, with the knockout stage only starting at the end of June.

Should the Netherlands progress to the final, Hulshoff would be out until July 14, when pre-season will already be underway. His contract is up after the tournament and it is unclear whether he will continue to work in this role while the Liverpool No.2.
