Calling for volunteers to join ‘massive’ search for Jay Slater from tomorrow

Spanish police have called for volunteers to join the “massive search” for missing British teenager Jay Slater.

Many volunteers have already joined police and search and rescue teams in the search for the 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer. Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was reported missing on Monday June 17 after staying with two men while in Tenerife for the NRG music festival.

Now, Spanish police have launched a new appeal for volunteers to help them search for the teenager. Anyone wishing to participate was told to report to Masca village at 9:00am tomorrow.

A Spanish police spokesman said: “On the occasion of the disappearance, from the afternoon/night of June 17, of the 19-year-old British man, in the area of ​​Masca, belonging to the municipality of Buenavista del Norte, the Civil Guard is preparing to carry out an massive search.

“The Civil Guard is preparing and coordinating a large search to find the missing British youth in the village of Masca.

“Considering that it is a steep, rocky area, full of bumps and with a multitude of ravines, paths and trails, the collaboration of all those Voluntary Associations that can help in that raid that is desired to be carried out in a directed way. and requested in a coordinated manner.

“That massive search will begin on Saturday, June 29 at 9:00 a.m., with a meeting point to be established at the Mirador de la Cruz de Hilda (Masca) to begin the search in a logical and orderly way across the multitude of roads . , paths and ravines found in the Mask.”

Police said volunteers should call the Guardia Civil on 696434031 before 8pm tonight if they want to join the search.

Jay has been missing for over a week now. He broke up with his girlfriend Lucy on the evening of June 16 and stayed with two men who, according to private investigator Mark Williams-Thomas, are British.

The two men reportedly did not attend the festival. They rented a car to allow them to easily travel to their vacation rental, located just outside the village of Masca, on a mountainside in the Rural de Teno National Park. This is about a 10 hour drive from Playa de las Americas where Jay was staying for the holiday.

At this cabin, Jay was last seen with the owner, Ofelia Medina Hernandez, saying she explained to Jay when the next bus would arrive after he lost her.

However, he chose to continue on foot, and she described him as “walking alone and fast”. Jay called Lucy shortly before 8am on that fateful Monday morning to say his phone battery was down to 1% and he had no idea where he was.
