The court heard Nair’s partner managed to call 999 from a landline but tried to stop her by pinning her down on the sofa, putting his hands around her neck and raising his fist to hit her. The police eventually arrived and Nair was arrested.

Ms Kuyken said Nair’s victim was found with bruises on her arms and shoulder, above her left eye and also around her neck. In a personal impact statement read in court, Nair’s victim said she believed Nair was going to seriously hurt her. She said she tried to hide her bruises from her children because she didn’t want them to know what happened to her.
