Wakefield High students receive $430,000 in scholarships

The school’s educational foundation helps send young people to higher education pursuits

Three dozen scholarships worth more than $430,000 were recently presented to students at Wakefield High School through the Wakefield High School Education Foundation.

Michael Wanzer (Wakefield Class of 2004), School Board Member David Priddy (Wakefield Class of 1992) and Superintendent Francisco Durán attended the recent honor ceremony.

The 2024 grants bring to just under $4.2 million the total number of scholarships awarded by the volunteer non-profit organization since 1986. More than 600 Wakefield graduates have received funding.

The 2024 scholarships range from one-time grants to $50,000 scholarships. Students will attend a variety of educational institutions, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Southern California to the University of Virginia, George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College.
