The Wigan Warriors youth system has always been one of the most productive in the game, however, it is currently going through one of its most fruitful spells. There seems to be a conveyor belt of young talent constantly ready to deliver a Super League-ready star.

In the Challenge Cup final, academy product Zach Eckersley stole the headlines with a try at Wembley that put Wigan on course to lift the Challenge Cup at the expense of Warrington Wolves. Eckersley, 20, was drafted into the side thanks to Adam Keighran’s suspension and looked destined to play on the big stage.

Last weekend, Jack Farrimond, who came into the side due to an injury to Jai Field, produced a virtuoso performance to dismantle London Broncos. The 18-year-old scored two tries and registered a try assist as Wigan tore the Broncos apart.

It’s safe to say the future looks bright for Wigan. Now chief executive Kris Radlinski has picked the Wigan Academy product who he believes looks like a superstar.

One player Radlinski singled out for praise is young Wigan back-rower Junior Nsemba. Nsemba made his Wigan debut against Hull KR in 2022 but first caught the eye in last year’s Challenge Cup win over Leeds Rhinos when he came off the bench to help the Warriors to victory at Headingley .

Now, Radlinski has singled him out for praise. Speaking to the Eddie and Steve Podcast, Radlinski said:

β€œ(There is) great hype around Junior at the moment, Junior Nsemba. I mean he’s just an incredible athlete. He has played less than 20 games and is a cup winner.

β€œHe’s a cup winner and you know he doesn’t look out of place, he doesn’t look out of place in the changing rooms, he doesn’t look out of place when he goes into a restaurant with the players. He looks like a superstar.”

Nsemba has established himself as one of the rising stars of the Super League. He has now made just 29 appearances for Wigan, playing 12 of a possible 14 games this season and scoring three tries. Nsemba was tipped for a first England call-up for the mid-season international against France but missed out this time.

But it seems only a matter of time before he receives international honours. After winning his first silverware with Wigan in the Challenge Cup final, he looks set for a bright career.
