Coventry Wetherspoons has been given a five star hygiene rating as staff say they are ‘delighted’

A Coventry Wetherspoons has been awarded a five star hygiene rating by the Food Standards Agency (FSA). The Spon Gate, on Croft Road, received the best rating in May.

Pubs are judged on how hygienic and well-managed the food preparation is and each business is judged against the same criteria, Coventry City Council said. Inspectors will look at food handling, cleanliness, as well as the condition of facilities and the building.

Officials from Coventry City Council were said to have been “impressed” by the standards of hygiene at The Spon Gate when they visited on Wednesday 29 May. Staff said they were “delighted” to have achieved the top rating from the FSA.

Manager Tom Clarke said: “We’re delighted to have won the top rating and I’m sure our customers will welcome the news too. Hygiene standards in the pub are of paramount importance.”

Mr Clarke added: “All staff work hard to ensure the pub offers its customers the highest levels of hygiene at all times and we are delighted that our efforts have been recognized with the five star rating.”
