General Election: Student’s suggestion on how politicians should fight – ‘Put them all on Bake Off’

“Put everyone on the Great British Bake Off” was one student’s suggestion for how the country should decide its Fourth of July vote. The general election is just a week away, and those eligible to vote will soon have to decide which way to go. to the vote.

LeicestershireLive went to the city’s Leicester College to talk to students about the election, to see if those eligible will be taking part in the vote and what issues they prioritized. One of the students, Braiden Whittaker, said Rishi Sunak had done well, suggesting he had done better than the previous two incumbents, saying: “Boris just had a party and left.”

He was then asked about Keir Starmer and his policies. Braiden said she doesn’t know much about him, probably because he’s not very visible on the type of media and social media he consumes. He said he really watches the “popular” stuff on terrestrial TV and suggested that maybe all politicians should go on the Great British Bake Off to decide the winner.

Mr Whittaker, who is 18, said he would vote. He said he thought we had a good transport system locally, that the NHS was struggling and could use more support. He felt the economy was growing, although he countered: “Inflation seems to have come down, but it’s still going up (since the pandemic) and it needs to come down a lot more.” He felt homelessness was rising and rough sleepers needed much more support to help them get back on their feet.

Braiden was accompanied by another 18-year-old student, who wished to remain anonymous. They said they knew a little about some of the candidates but didn’t pay that much attention, adding, “Whoever gets in, gets in.”

As for the Tories and Labour, they said: “I’ve seen the party broadcasts, Labor wants to bring in 6,500 more teachers and both parties have promised to reduce NHS waiting times. I think the ambulance and emergency services need more funding because families. I lose loved ones to waiting times. I think national service is a good idea, but I don’t think many will join the army.

“Risha Sunak has some good ideas, whether she can deliver or just words.” Of Keir Starmer they said: “It’s the same with Labour, can they deliver or are they just words? We are still not over Covid, actions speak louder than words. Can any of them help local businesses?
