The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation after a fatal shooting

Officers have appealed to the public in Lambeth for more information

The Metropolitan Police have opened a murder investigation after a man was fatally shot in the London borough of Lambeth.

Officers received reports of a man requiring immediate treatment at around 2.30am on Saturday morning (May 11).

Medical staff at a local hospital also called the police to help him after he was dropped off at the emergency department in a private car.

After this, emergency medical personnel did their best to treat him, but he was eventually pronounced dead shortly after 3:00 am.

The victim, who was a man in his 20s, is now believed to have been shot on the Westbury Estate in St Rule Street. A police cordon remains at the scene.

Officers have not yet arrested any potential suspects, but appealed to the public for help in finding who was responsible.

Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe, from the Met Police’s Forensic Specialist Unit, paid tribute to the victim, whose life was “tragically cut short”.

“A young man has lost his life and his family is desperate for answers. My officers and I are working to bring them the justice they deserve and your information could be a critical part of our investigation,” a he said.

“If you were in the area during this incident or have doorbell, dash cam or CCTV footage that may have captured the events, please contact the police as soon as possible. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can share what you know through the independent charity Crimestoppers.”

In addition, Thorpe added that there would be an increased police presence in the area of ​​the crime in the coming days to reassure the public of their safety.
