The leader-elect from Birmingham reacts to Thursday night’s presidential debate

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – With so much talk about the president the day after the presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, we wanted to find out how Democrats at home are reacting. If Alabama Democrats are worried about the president’s performance Thursday night, they’re not showing it. Instead, they are focusing on what they call “lies” from former President Trump at the debate.

Local elected leaders like Jefferson County Commissioner Shelia Tyson say people should be less fixated on the president’s age and more on his record. She points to things like Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan and the Inflation Relief Act. She says that despite Biden’s demonstration, he told the truth, which she believes his opponent did not. Commissioner Tyson also says people should pay attention to former President Trump’s response when asked if he would stand for re-election if he lost again.

“He jumped over it. We have to look at things like that. He will pull the same thing he pulled last time and they end up storming the capital. Will this happen again? He never answered that question. He beat around the bush on everything, she said.

Asked if he thinks the presidential election will have any influence on local elections in our area, Commissioner Tyson says it depends on the people.
