Jamal Lowe’s arrival at Sheffield Wednesday could mean an imminent exit for the key player

Sheffield Wednesday are set to announce the signing of winger Jamal Lowe.

Danny Rohl has had a prolific start to the summer transfer window ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season.

They will be looking to build on their brilliant finish to the 2023/24 season, where they stayed up on the last day of the season.

Successful signing Yan Valery has piqued the interest of many, with Sheffield Wednesday also announcing the signing of Svante Ingelsson on Friday.

Former Sheffield United winger Max Lowe and goalkeeper Ben Hamer are the other two arrivals on the S6, taking the number to four confirmed signings for Rohl so far.

They are now close to confirming a deal to bring winger Jamal Lowe to Hillsborough after a season on loan at Swansea City, as first revealed by the Sheffield Wednesday News.

However, the deal could spell the end of a current Sheffield Wednesday fan favourite, whose contract is due to expire this summer.

The signing of Jamal Lowe could end Josh Windass’ spell at Sheffield Wednesday

Josh Windass’ future at Sheffield Wednesday has been uncertain for some time as his contract is set to expire this summer.

Windass rejected his final contract offer, with Championship clubs including West Brom surrounding the 30-year-old.

With Lowe being a very similar player to Windass, it suggests Rohl moved quickly to bring in the former Premier League winger as a replacement for the former Rangers forward.

As a result, the writing is on the wall that Windass’ departure from Hillsborough is imminent.

Can Jamal Lowe deliver what Josh Windass did for Sheffield Wednesday?

Windass was arguably crucial to the highlights of his time at Sheffield Wednesday, from the last-minute header to promotion to the Championship in the 2022/23 League One play-off final against Barnsley, until his three goals in a row at the end. from the 2023/24 season to protect the Owls from relegation.

However, when comparing the form of both players, neither player has massively outperformed the other in terms of stats in the 2023/24 Championship season.

Windass has averaged a goal contribution of 0.32 per game, while Lowe’s is 0.34, showing the similar impact of both players.

Above all, Wednesday will lose a true servant of the club, who was instrumental in preventing the club from falling back to League One.

Sheffield Wednesday is fertile ground for optimism ahead of the new season, but you have to thank Windass for providing the foundations for that over the last two years.
