£20million player Daniel Farke now has a ‘real chance’ of leaving Leeds United this summer

Daniel Farke will have to face the reality of losing key players from his Leeds United squad this summer.

Farke’s first season in charge at Elland Road will ultimately be regarded as a failure after failing to guide Leeds back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Paraag Marathe has already lent his support to Farke but will have to piece together a new promotion without some of his best players from last season.

Championship POTS Crysencio Summerville has been tipped as the most likely to go and Leeds are showing little determination behind the scenes to keep him.

Other big names who have been linked with exits include Archie Gray and Willy Gnonto, while there is no guarantee that centre-back Joe Rodon will return after his loan spell.

The journalist shares a key update on Illan Meslier’s Leeds future

Leeds fans will certainly be hoping they can get away with at most two big sales this summer so their entire squad isn’t dismantled.

There are some names supporters would be more willing to lose than others and it would be fair to say Gray is the one no one wants to see.

On the other hand, there would be considerably less opposition to selling someone like Illan Meslier, who has been linked with a move to Marseille this week.

Meslier is open to a move to the south of France and Leeds have reportedly set an asking price of £20m, which would represent a significant return on what they paid for him.

And speaking exclusively to LeedsUnited.Newsjournalist Graeme Bailey says he’s “heard” there’s a “real chance” the move could happen.

He said: “There’s certainly interest there, I’ve heard that. Marseille can offer European football, de Zerbi is there. It’s more like a deal that would suit all parties. He’s been a good servant for Leeds, he’s a good player, but he’s got a chance to go back to France and play first-team football.

“If he goes to Marseille and plays well, suddenly breaks into the international team, before the World Cup it could be the perfect time. He won’t do that at Elland Road when Leeds are in the Championship.

“He could get a good return and goalkeeping is one of the positions you would back him to find another one. There is a real chance for that.”

What Farke said about Meslier at Leeds

Meslier actually looked destined to leave Leeds a year ago, but Farke’s intervention saw him stay at Elland Road.

Despite the signing of Karl Darlow, Farke backed Meslier as his number one, with the 24-year-old missing just two of Leeds’ 49 Championship and play-off games.

Farke has never been one to hide how much he rates Meslier either, labeling him the best goalkeeper in the division in November.

He said: “His potential without a doubt. He can be any goalkeeper at any given time. Incredibly young. It’s important to play with confidence. He has the ability to play from the back. He needs confidence for this, but his potential is remarkable.

“Essentially for six frees and good defensive behaviour. Essential for accumulation. A diamond like that needs to be supported. Young goalkeepers will make mistakes, but that is to be expected. Excellent overall this season. The best goalkeeper in the league.”
