Paul Cooke criticizes the Leeds Rhinos man’s performance in the France-England clash

England meet France in a mid-season international at the Stade Ernest-Wallon in Toulouse today, with England recovering from a sloppy start that saw them fall 8-0 behind to a fired-up France side . However, one Leeds Rhinos player has been singled out for criticism.

France started the game with an intensity that seemed to catch England by surprise as they raced to an 8-0 lead. However, England’s superior experience and fitness told as they turned the game around with a flurry of first-half tries.

France’s substitutes came under scrutiny as the game began to swing in England’s favor when both sides shuffled their forward packs midway through the first half.

Now commentator Paul Cooke has singled out one of the Leeds Rhinos for criticism after a sloppy display helped swing the game in England’s favour.

France took the lead early in the encounter and were inspired by the performance of their strikers Romain Navarette and Julian Bousquet. However, when France rotated their pack midway through the first half, their substitutes struggled to make an impact as England regained control of the game.

Speaking on Super League+ coverage, Paul Cooke singled out Leeds Rhinos striker Justin Sangare for criticism for a sloppy performance from the bench. Sangare struggled to maintain the intensity shown by France’s front row and produced a handling error on the break with France in a good attacking position. Cooke said:

“It’s a bad game. Sangare simply cannot afford to make those errors. He came off the bench and didn’t play great for me. I don’t think the midfielders who came off the bench for the French added anything.

“It’s another error from Sangare. It has three men on it. It’s just not a good decision, especially when they didn’t have the ball.

“That there is a difference between your top international players and those who are trying to work their way up to become a top international player.”
