Former Bristol City man joins Bitter Rivals

Taylor Moore has joined Bristol Rovers on a deal until 2027, according to the club’s official website.

After his time in France with Ligue 2 side Valenciennes, Moore returned to England to join the rather ambitious Ligue 1 side. The Gas have had an excellent window so far and look certain to improve on last season’s 15th place finish.

Moore joins the likes of Joel Senior, Isaac Hutchinson, Clinton Mola, Ruel Sotiriou, Bryant Bilongo and Dan Ellison who have already made the move to Bristol this summer and there is plenty of excitement around the club at the moment.

The 27-year-old made 17 appearances in Ligue 2 last season in what was his second spell in France, having initially come through the academy at RC Lens. Moore has spent the majority of his career playing for England though and would spend a fair amount of time with one of Gas’ biggest rivals.

That side would be Bristol City, who he would represent between 2016 and 2023. However, the defender would be restricted to just 60 senior appearances in all competitions during his time with the Robins, spending plenty of time on loan with the likes of Cheltenham Town, Shrewsbury Town and Southend United.

He brings a wealth of experience to the Memorial Stadium and has just under 200 EFL appearances. It’s yet another smart pick-up for Rovers, who are certainly a side to watch ahead of next season.

Speaking to the club’s press on his arrival, Moore said:

“It’s good to be here. It was a big decision and the biggest emotion I feel right now is pure emotion. I am very, very happy to be here and to continue my journey in football.

“With where the club is now and where they are trying to get to, there is a lot of ambition to climb up the ranks in EFL League One as much as possible and ultimately become a Championship side. That ambition is here, it has been stated by the manager and as a player you want to go somewhere with that project and ambition.

“This is an important stage for me personally in my career. I want to be in a place where I feel settled and really part of the project. The ambition is to build and continue at Bristol Rovers and it makes this move feel right.”

The writer’s vision

There is a lot to like about Bristol Rovers’ dealings so far this window and they could be a dark horse in the League 1 promotion race. Now seems the time for the club to move on and the signing of Moore further exemplifies this.

Despite his time with Bristol City not working out as he would have liked, he still had a very good career at a decent level. The defender now has the opportunity to play a key role in the future of the Gas and could become somewhat of a mainstay at the heart of the defense over the next three years.
