Fans rejoice as Wigan Warriors win the Challenge Cup and complete the Rugby League full course

Wigan Warriors fans celebrate after their side won their 21st Challenge Cup title with an 18-8 win over Warrington at Wembley. The win meant the Cherry and Whites also became the first team since 2007 to hold all four of the game’s major honors simultaneously.

Despite a late rally, Warrington were second best throughout and rarely looked likely to deliver the cup to head coach Sam Burgess in his first season in charge. Tributes to Leeds great Rob Burrow were held ahead of the final, with the 64,845 Wembley crowd – the biggest since 2017 – standing for an impeccably observed minute’s silence before kick-off and again at seven minutes from the start of the match in honor of the shirt he wore with such aplomb.

At the final whistle, Wigan fans took to social media to praise the team. Jack posted on X: “Wigan dominate rugby league once again, holding all the trophies at the same time. One team, one club”.

Paul Redhead wrote: “Wigan have all 4 trophies, what a job (head coach Matt Peet) has done.” Joe Broome posted: “Get in there Wigan! Now let’s go to the super league”.

And Jake said, “Absolute dominance from Wigan. League Leaders Shield, Grand Final, World Club Challenge and now Challenge Cup all the time for 9 months. What team.”

Wigan Athletic posted: ‘Congratulations to all at Wigan Warriors’, while nearby neighbors Leigh Leopards wrote: ‘Congratulations @WiganWarriorsRL on bringing @TheChallengeCup back to our borough for the third year in a row. I guess it’s our turn next year then? Without pressure… “
