Latest crash in Straight Mile as police refer to IOPC after man’s death

Police have confirmed that a man killed after a car crashed into a tree in Warwickshire was in his 20s. The serious collision happened on the B4453, known as the Straight Mile, near Rugby, yesterday afternoon (June 2).

West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed that despite the best efforts of paramedics, a man was pronounced dead at the scene. Warwickshire Police have now confirmed the man, who has not been identified, is in his 20s.

The force also said officers reported they had reason to speak to the deceased shortly before the collision. “The nature of this contact and the circumstances surrounding the collision are currently under investigation,” a Warwickshire Police spokesman said.

“As is normal with a death following police contact, the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).” Investigations into the collision yesterday afternoon, just after 4.30pm, are ongoing.

“Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the collision or the moments leading up to it can report it online or call us, quoting incident number 214 of June 2,” the police spokesman added.
