Wor Flags explains Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton’s glowing message as ‘honoured’ Newcastle duo

Newcastle United’s Brazilian stars have been honored in a heartfelt display by Wor Flags.

Ahead of the match against Sheffield United at St James’ Park, the group of supporters decorated the Gallowgate with a large Brazilian flag and accompanied it with the quote: ‘From Alianca and Rio to Newcastle Upon Tyne, a home away from home. Joelinton and Bruno, our Brazilian Geordians.

The message was written in both Portuguese and English. The group was keen to point out that the presentation was as much about thanking Joelinton as it was about honoring Bruno. The former Hoffenheim star signed a new four-year contract earlier this month.

A spokesman for the fan group said: “This is long overdue. After the announcement of Joelinton’s new contract, we felt we had to honor him.

“Bruno’s presence in a completely depleted squad this season has been massive and is a huge reason why we are in contention for Europe. He is absolutely essential to this football club and we desperately hope he stays.

“It made sense to honor them both together so they know how much they are loved, and in true Wor Flags fashion, we went massive with it.”

Joelinton was ruled out with a quadriceps problem he picked up in the FA Cup win over Sunderland in January. Bruno has been a regular in Eddie Howe’s squad this season but speculation remains over a move elsewhere in the summer.

The former Lyon star has a £100m release clause but suitors only have until June 30 to activate it.
