A woman who was shot outside the Red Lion pub in Rotherham on Friday night has been left with serious injuries.

South Yorkshire Police responded to reports of a shooting on the High Street just before 10pm on Friday (June 28). A group of men are believed to have moved into the area and discharged a firearm, seriously injuring a 55-year-old woman.

The woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening and remains there at this time.

An area outside the Red Lion pub was cordoned off by police on Friday night, with evidence consistent with gunshots found at the scene. The cordon has since been lifted but two scenes remain in place in Strathmore Grove and Saville Road in Wath as part of the investigation.

Detective Inspector Iain Rawlins said: “This was an alarming incident where shots were fired outside a pub, causing a woman to be seriously injured. “Other people could have been injured so easily and we are now putting a lot of resources into this investigation to find the people responsible.

“Our investigation continues in pace with various lines of inquiry being carried out. However, we need the public’s support, help and cooperation and urge anyone with information to contact us immediately.

“Even the smallest piece of information from you could prove crucial to our investigation and we would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the High Street area at the time and has relevant doorbell, dash cam recordings or CCTV.
