Enzo Maresca’s warning that Leicester City will ignite Leeds United’s promotion rivalry

Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has revealed he will change his squad for tonight’s game at Millwall as the Foxes prepare for the first of two key away games in three days. Leicester head to relegation-threatened Millwall tonight before making the long trip to another struggling side in Plymouth Argyle on Friday night.

While some might point to Leicester expecting to take six points from games against teams whose combined points total for the entire campaign equals that of the Foxes, Maresca strikes a different tune, pointing instead to the desperate nature of the teams that fight for points.

With Leeds United at home to Sunderland tonight and Ipswich Town hosting Watford on Wednesday night, the race for the two automatic promotion spots could take another turn in the next 24 hours. After righting the ship with back-to-back wins, Leicester are back at the top of the table and Maresca knows the importance of staying there this weekend.

“Until the end, for us, but for all clubs, every match is important because every team is playing for a certain target,” said Maresca. “When you’re playing for survival, it’s always a drive. We have to be ready, it will be a battle for sure, with long balls and second balls. If we are not prepared, we can struggle.

“Absolutely, we will definitely rotate. We have three games in one week. It’s not easy. We’ll be making a rotation for sure. We’ll try to manage the energy a little bit.”
