Confirmed: Birmingham City agree striker on day one of pre-season

Birmingham City have confirmed that popular striker Lukas Jutkiewicz has signed a new contract with the club.

Jutkiewicz has penned a new one-year deal with the Blues to help the club climb out of League One following relegation from the Championship last term. The 35-year-old will take his Blues career into a ninth season after first joining the club in 2016 from Burnley.

“It was just a matter of getting it done,” Jutkiewicz told Blues TV. “I think from the moment the season ended I wanted to come back here and look forward to the new challenge.

“Pre-season is the key really, it’s so important to start from the ground up. We’re back on Monday and it’s going to be full blast to make sure we’re ready for the first game. So it was incredibly important to get it all wrapped up.”

Jutkiewicz scored three goals in 28 league outings last term, despite starting just three league games. He scored 67 goals in a total of 331 appearances for the Blues.

The former Middlesbrough, Coventry and Bolton striker will now join his team-mates in the first week of pre-season under new manager Chris Davies. The Blues players report to the Henley-in-Arden training facility today for fitness testing.
