‘Sensational’ Sheffield Wednesday star now set to sign new deal after ‘big push’ from Danny Rohl

Sheffield Wednesday are still waiting on three players to sign new contracts with the club.

The Owls have already tied down Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer to new deals, having racked up over 800 appearances for the club between them.

Sheffield Wednesday had also offered fresh terms to Cameron Dawson and Will Vaulks, but the pair chose to join Rotherham United and Oxford United respectively, as they looked to pick up regular game-time.

The Yorkshire outfit are waiting for Di’Shon Bernard to return from Copa America before he can make a decision on his future, while Dominic Iorfa is still in talks with the club.

Josh Windass’ contract negotiations have been made more public though, with fans being forced through a rollercoaster of emotions in recent weeks.

Josh Windass now set to stay at Sheffield Wednesday

It was originally reported that the ‘sensational’ midfielder would commit his future to Wednesday, but only days later it came out that they had hit a snag and he instead looked set to leave on a free transfer.

However, after positive talks over the last week, it now looks like he will stay at Hillsborough.

The Star journalist Alex Miller wrote on X: “Understand Josh Windass and Owls have come to an agreement on the terms of a new contract. Barring more unexpected complications, he’s set to stay. Been a big push to get to this stage. DR a big Windass fan. Looked doomed at one stage. Big tick.”

The Owls have a lot to feel positive about recently

Bannan had recently admitted he was ‘confident’ Windass would sign a new deal, and it looks like he knew a lot more than supporters did.

With so much uncertainty and concern over the number of players out of contract this summer, Wednesday looks to have done brilliantly in tying down a majority of them.

Dawson’s fresh contract offer came as a huge surprise, while Vaulks’ departure isn’t the end of the world either.

If Danny Rohl can keep hold of Palmer, Bannan, Windass, Iorfa and Bernard, then that is some excellent business for the club – and even better when you add those players to the quality of additions they have made so far.
