The Yorkshire neighbor’s row and the tree cut in half that became a tourist attraction

A tree cut in half in a Sheffield suburb has become a tourist attraction after a years-long dispute over the plant.

The tree was cut in half following a year-long dispute between Bharat Mistry and his neighbors Irene and Graham Lee, both in their 70s. Taking place at their Waterthorpe homes, the row culminated in the Lees cutting off half the branches of the 25-year-old tree in 2021.

According to Mr Mistry, the couple were upset about the tree-nesting birds littering their driveway with droppings.

Three years on, many locals still say they see visitors popping into the quiet cul-de-sac to catch a glimpse of the tree, which has remained chopped in half ever since. It even has a Google Maps tourist attraction tag, complete with its own reviews.

One reviewer left a three-star rating and said: “Interesting tree that was cut in half due to an argument between the two neighbours.

“The story also went over the news and it was exciting to visit the location and see the news turn into real life.

“Google Street View hasn’t been updated since 10 years ago, so you can see the original tree before it was cut down.
