Leeds United are said to be looking to cut costs in the squad this summer, which could lead to the sale of either Patrick Bamford or Joel Piroe.

The Whites are gearing up for the start of their Championship campaign under Daniel Farke, but they are undergoing changes to their squad.

Archie Gray is the first major exit to be confirmed imminently, while others could be on the way out as the 49ers trim their team and overhead.

Patrick Bamford or Joel Piroe to be sold as Leeds cut squad costs – Report

A Daily Mail report says that amid Gray’s soon-to-be-announced £40m move to Tottenham, others could be sold by the club soon.

PSR’s problems are believed to be largely solved by the teenager’s exit from Elland Road, as they write:

“Leeds have claimed they don’t have to sell for profit and sustainability rules (PSR) after signing Marc Roca to Real Betis and Charle Cresswell to Toulouse, but they must cut their budget ahead of next season.”

However, they do share that two forwards are being targeted by the 49ers for a possible sale: Patrick Bamford and Joel Piroe, who both have interest from overseas, it is claimed.

Happy to have Aaronson back?

Bamford signed for Leeds in 2018 from Middlesbrough in a £7million deal and is currently under contract until 2026.

Piroe was Leeds’ marquee summer signing after relegation, joining from Swansea City in a deal that could be worth up to £16m with add-ons, contracted until the summer of 2027.

Along with these two, left-back Junior Firpo is also “expected” to be sold after the second half of the season, in which he made eight assists in the league.

Bamford or Piroe could only leave if Leeds replace well

The idea of selling these players wouldn’t be too bad for Leeds fans, but the only way that happens is if the replacements are lined up.

Leeds have one advantage over their promotion rivals this summer and that is their continuity under Farke with Joe Rodon in place and too much loss is never a good thing.

Letting Bamford or Piroe go isn’t a blow that cripples our attack, but it’s another key personality we need to replace in the transfer market.
