‘Excellent’ Leeds United player could start pre-season with Wayne Rooney’s side

Leeds United are working hard on a number of exits this summer, with big name Archie Gray set to leave, but a £5million midfielder could be set to join them in the coming weeks.

Gray is closing in on a mammoth £40million move to Tottenham, which will make the England U21 the third most expensive departure in Leeds’ history behind Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, who have both joined Barcelona .

It comes after Jack Harrison rejoined Everton, Marc Roca went to Betis, Sonny Perkins secured a loan at boyhood Leyton Orient and Liam Cooper, Jamie Shackleton and Cody Drameh became free agents.

Charlie Cresswell has left for France to join Toulouse for £3.8m, while Diego Llorente is expected to be reunited with Roca at Betis. Junior Firpo is expected to leave the club, whose contract expires in 2025.

But another, who could be seen as Leeds’ forgotten man, could start pre-season at a Championship rival.

The £5million midfielder could join Wayne Rooney’s squad for pre-season

Revenue is not yet on the agenda, other than securing a return for Joe Rodon, which has been agreed in talks to take Gray to Spurs. Another midfielder who could go now is £5million midfielder Darko Gyabi.

Gyabi was one of a number of players who were seen as one who could benefit from Leeds’ relegation. But he struggled for game time under Daniel Farke and was loaned out to Plymouth in January.

He has played 10 times for Argyle, double the number of senior appearances he has made for Leeds since joining the Whites in 2022. Now Leeds Live have an update on his future this summer.

A summer of change for Plymouth, but Gyabi could join

Described as “excellent” by Ian Foster, who was in charge following his arrival at Adam Forshaw’s side, Gyabi certainly made an impact as Plymouth managed to survive relegation from the Championship.

Wayne Rooney is now in charge at Plymouth ahead of the new campaign, following spells at Derby, DC United and then Birmingham City. He could decide to bring Gyabi back to Argyle at the start of 2024-25.

Leeds Live say Gyabi could miss pre-season training at Leeds today and instead start pre-season in Devon. Plymouth will want a deal done soon before they leave for Spain on July 7.
