Fresh appeal on unsolved murder of Sheffield pizza chef

The family of a pizza delivery man who was fatally stabbed have launched a tribute on the anniversary of his murder.

Carlo Giannini, 34, was found dead in Manor Fields Park in Sheffield in the early hours of 12 May 2022.

A murder investigation was launched and four knives were recovered during a search of the scene, but no one was ever charged over Mr Giannini’s death.

In a new statement released Sunday, his family said not a day goes by that they don’t think about him.

“We live that May 12 every day, remembering what happened,” they said.

“Our life has changed. Time does not change our pain.

“No one had the right to kill a young man with many dreams and a great passion for his work.”

Describing the Italian-born chef as a beloved friend, son and brother, they said Mr Giannini loved life and his family.

“It saddens his family that someone needs to know what happened and it doesn’t help to find the culprit,” they added.

‘Not too late’

South Yorkshire Police said six people were being interviewed, with five suspected of murder and one suspected of assisting an offender after Mr Giannini’s death.

In addition, officers reviewed thousands of hours of CCTV footage, leaving “no stone unturned”.

Inspector General Becky Hodgman, who is the lead investigator on the case, said that despite the efforts, the evidence in the case was “satisfied” and that the case remained unsolved.

“Officers have worked tirelessly over the last two years on this large-scale murder investigation in their attempts to identify Carlo’s killer and the motive behind his tragic death,” she said.

“Carlo’s family and I believe that someone has information that could be critical in moving this case forward.”

Det Ch Insp Hodgman added: “I am appealing to anyone who knows anything about this case to consider the pain Carlo’s family are going through and get in touch.

“It’s been two years, but it’s not too late to help.”

Anyone with information about Mr Giannini’s death is urged to contact South Yorkshire Police.
