Tributes to Leeds ‘hit and run’ victim as driver appears in court

A woman who died in a hit and run in Leeds on Friday has been named by police as Michaela Fowles.

Michaela, 35, was involved in a collision with a blue Volkswagen Golf R on Thorpe Lane in Middleton, near the junction with Redbarn Close, at 9.38pm on Friday (June 28).



She received emergency treatment but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later. The car did not stop at the scene. On Saturday morning (June 29), a vehicle, believed to be the one involved in the collision, was found abandoned.

In a statement, her family said: “Michaela ‘Kayla’ Louise Fowles – A beautiful daughter, sister and mother. She will always be in our hearts and will never be forgotten. Sleep well sweet girl.” They asked people to respect their privacy at this difficult time.

Reece Lawrence, 29, of Raylands Way, Leeds, appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision in relation to the incident.

He was remanded in custody pending a further hearing at Leeds Crown Court on July 29.
