The former Everton CEO claims the club could be interested in the Leicester forward in the summer

Speaking to Football Insider, Wyness claims that Everton still retain an interest in the former Manchester City striker, who they have previously been linked with in previous transfer windows.

To be fair, though, that doesn’t make him part of a very exclusive group, as the Blues have been rumored to be interested in a staggering number of strikers in recent years.

Iheanacho’s contract expires next month and so could be available on a free transfer should the Toffees consider a move for him.

Free agents are likely to play a big part in this summer’s transfer business – at least in terms of any incoming players – given the huge financial pressures the club is under.

As the ownership crisis continues with no solution in sight, Everton are left in a position where, unless day-to-day costs can be covered, a number of out-of-contract players are almost certain to leave and others will have to be sold this summer.

They will almost certainly include Amadou Onana and possibly Jarrad Branthwaite. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is also attracting attention and could also go if the offer is high enough as the club desperately try to balance the books.

Such a situation could leave Everton shopping the bargain basement for fresh talent, even if considerable sums are raised from some sales.

It’s a truly appalling mess and leaves Blues fans and players in a state of limbo with the days counting down to the transfer window opening.

After another dreadful and very trying season, even worse than the previous two, such a scenario is the last thing the Toffees need.

There are a number of players available for free this summer, including strikers such as Che Adams and potentially Iheanacho.

Comparing these two with Adams being the biggest goal threat, with a total of sixteen league goals this season so far, while Iheanacho has bagged just six himself.

In any case, if one or the other were to join, neither the signs will set the heart of the average Evertonian racing.

The problem is that he is looking more and more like he will be the type of player the Toffees are likely to sign this summer, unless something miraculous happens with the owner. Given Everton’s luck, that seems unlikely.
