The buzz around England’s wing hasn’t died down completely. Jarell Quansah was initially talked about as part of the deal, which Liverpool flatly refused. However, the Reds could consider other elements in the deal, with Caoimhin Kelleher plus cash a possibility. An outright cash offer is also on the table given the 23-year-old’s impressive skills.

In addition, Liverpool should look for a centre-back, with Riccardo Calafiori a name that has emerged. With pre-season approaching, there is likely to be a flurry of activity behind the scenes.

Newcastle believe Liverpool’s approach for Anthony Gordon is opportunistic – and are planning a warm welcome for the forward when he returns from duty in England.

Despite representing his country at Euro 2024 this summer, Gordon’s club future has been thrown into doubt after Newcastle were forced to face a deficit in their financial accounts. Talks between Newcastle and Liverpool regarding the 23-year-old took place but ultimately fell through after the Merseyside club could not match the Toon’s valuation.

Even though Arne Slot’s side never made a formal bid, Gordon has been swayed by interest from his boyhood club, leaving Newcastle concerned about his mindset ahead of pre-season training later this month.

Manuel Ugarte the latest

Manchester United’s chase for Uruguay midfielder standout Manuel Ugarte has hit a roadblock over the player’s agent.

Erik ten Hag sees the PSG midfielder as the ideal replacement for Casemiro, who looks set to leave Old Trafford. Ugarte could be the first signing under potential owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

But Liverpool have unexpectedly appeared in discussions over Ugarte’s future, according to his agent’s remarks. After a less-than-impressive spell following his move from Sporting CP, the Paris Saint-Germain star looks set for a summer move.
