Clearer CCTV footage of man wanted over homophobic double stabbing in Clapham

Fresh CCTV footage has been released by police investigating a homophobic double stabbing outside a south London gay bar.

The two victims were standing outside Two Brewers in Clapham High Street at around 10.15pm on Sunday when they were approached by a man with a knife who attacked them before running off.

The victims, aged between 20 and 30, were taken to hospital for treatment and have since been released.

Scotland Yard said on Wednesday that the new footage was taken from a bus on route 50 in Thornton Heath at around 8.30pm before Sunday’s attack.

DCI Jivan Saivb from Lambeth Local Policing Team is leading the investigation and said: “These images provide a clearer picture of the person we need to identify and locate following this shocking attack. I would urge people to look at these pictures – do you know this man?

“Do you recognize the clothes they are wearing?

“If you can help identify him, please get in touch.”

Patrols are also underway in and around the Clapham High Street area and will continue over the coming days.

In an Instagram post, one of the men, identified only as Neil, wrote on Monday: “I could never be prouder or gayer than I am today.”

“I wasn’t left feeling sad or angry or confused,” he wrote. “I was just left with so many questions.”

PC Hayley Jones, who is the LGBT+ Community Liaison Officer (CLO) for Lambeth and Southwark, added: “We understand that some people in the LGBT+ community may not feel confident talking to the police; My role was introduced to provide a dedicated LGBT+ point of contact to support the community and advise on investigations where homophobia and transphobia are a motive.

“You may contact me directly for advice and assistance or to assist with this investigation.”
