LIVE: Thunder and heavy rain hit Greater Manchester as sunny spell comes to an abrupt end

The glorious summer weather of recent days has come to an abrupt end in Greater Manchester.

Heavy rain, thunder and lightning were reported across the region.

Temperatures of almost 26 degrees were recorded yesterday Saturday (May 11), making it the warmest day we’ve enjoyed so far.

But forecasters predicted there could be thunderstorms and heavy rain, with three weather warnings in place.

Yellow storm warnings cover large parts of the UK, including Greater Manchester, from Sunday morning and will last until 11pm.

The weather service said the warning could leave spray and flash flooding, leading to difficult driving conditions. This could also affect trains and buses, while power cuts may occur.

The Met Office said: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms could lead to some disruption in some places, particularly for travel. Flooding of isolated property is possible”.
