Club chairman addresses Leicester City’s £15m transfer bid for Copa America star

Leicester City’s bid for Paraguayan winger Ramon Sosa has been rejected by his club chairman.

City are said to have made a £15m bid for Sosa, who plays for Talleres in Argentina. But Andres Fasi, the club’s president, reportedly told local media: “The offers that have arrived do not satisfy what the player represents.”

But it doesn’t look like the Talleres are closed for sale. Their manager, Walter Ribonetto, said of Sosa in June: “Obviously, if I could choose, I would prefer to keep him, but I think it is difficult because of the situation that clubs often have to sell.”

Sosa has performed very well for his club with seven goals and six assists in 21 outings this calendar year. The 24-year-old, who plays most regularly on the left flank cutting right onto his right foot, has excellent pace and footwork and is one of the most dangerous ball carriers playing in Argentina.

That caught the attention of a few clubs. Everton and Newcastle were also listed as interested parties, while LA Galaxy made a club-record bid for him in the winter.

Sosa is currently playing for Paraguay at the Copa America, although the country were eliminated before their final group game against Costa Rica in the early hours of Wednesday morning. They lost their first two group games to Colombia and Brazil.
