The bomb squad called a police cordon off the main road for three hours

A bomb disposal squad was called into action after the discovery of what was believed to be an unexploded Second World War mortar shell on a main road in Warwickshire. Police have sealed off the A45 in London and made the stretch of road a ‘no go’ zone near Stretton-on-Dunsmore.

A Warwickshire Police spokesman confirmed a 999 was made at 1.17pm. It was from builders renovating a property down the road.

They reported finding the suspicious device in a field to the right of the home’s driveway. The police immediately closed the road.

They also threw up a 100-metre cordon around the area, with several neighboring properties being evacuated. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists were called to the scene.

Fortunately, EOD confirmed that it was not a live device. “The bomb disposal team has confirmed that the object is not an explosive device,” the police spokesman said.

The cordon was lifted at around 4.30pm and the main road was reopened. But there was some increase in traffic in the area after the closure.
