Charlton Athletic sign Coventry City striker Matt Godden on two-year deal – South London News

Charlton Athletic have completed a deal for Coventry City striker Matt Godden.

The South London Press understands the Addicks have handed the experienced frontman a two-year deal with a club option for a further 12 months.

Godden, 32, has scored 32 goals and collected eight assists in 117 league appearances.

Charlton manager Nathan Jones has made adding to the front line a priority.

The Addicks boss is set to want five first-team strikers at his disposal next season but is set to part ways with Alfie May, who joins Birmingham City on a three-year deal, after a fee was agreed .

May scored 27 goals in all competitions last season, 23 in the league, as he won the division’s Golden Boot award.

Godden will compete with Miles Leaburn, Chuks Aneke and Daniel Kanu for a forward spot, but a new entry is expected in that department.

He has scored 50 times in 156 appearances for the Sky Blues, who he joined from Peterborough in 2019.

Canterbury-born Godden won promotion to League One with Coventry in 2020.

We reported in May that he was on a target list for Charlton.
