Leicester City have confirmed the £30m transfer of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is officially a Chelsea player after Leicester City confirmed the departure of their star midfielder.

The £30million transfer sees the 25-year-old reunited with Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge, with Dewsbury-Hall signing a six-year deal. Its exit greatly increases the City’s chances of complying with the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), with its business entering the accounts as pure profit.

While the transfer likely saves City from potential future PSR breaches, thereby avoiding possible further sanctions, it is a move that will disappoint the fan base. Dewsbury-Hall has been a City player for 17 years, graduating from the club’s academy to become their star man, finishing with a total of 129 appearances.

A fans’ favourite, Dewsbury-Hall has written an emotional farewell to City, wishing the club all the best for the season and hoping he has righted the wrongs of relegation, ensuring he won’t be leaving until he is once again a Premier League club.

Under Maresca, Dewsbury-Hall made great strides in his attacking play, contributing 12 goals and 14 assists to City’s Championship title success, earning him the club’s player of the season and player of the season award. He will now be driven by the Italian again as he looks to make a breakthrough in the next stage of his career.

After successful loan spells with Blackpool and Luton, Dewsbury-Hall was promoted to City’s first team for the 2021-22 season, an excellent performance from the bench against Southampton in December of that campaign establishing him as a starter under Brendan Rodgers . By the spring, the former City manager had declared Dewsbury-Hall as the club’s future captain.
