Agropur dairy cooperative hit by ‘limited’ cyber incident.

Agropur says it is the victim of a cyber incident, the impact of which was limited to part of its shared online directory.

The incident occurred in recent days and did not affect transactional systems, the dairy processor said on Tuesday.

“The continuity of our operations has not been affected. We confirm that some of our employees and stakeholders have been affected by this incident,” spokesman Guillaume Bérubé said in an email.

He said those affected had been advised and that “steps have been taken to mitigate the impact of the incident and enhance data protection”.

News of the cyberattack came last Friday from the cybersecurity news site BleepingComputer.

Agropur has launched an investigation to assess the nature and extent of the incident. The company said it is working with outside cybersecurity experts and is in contact with law enforcement.

Bérubé said the co-op is not commenting further at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

Agropur is owned by more than 3,000 dairy farmers and is one of the 20 largest dairy processors in the world. In 2023, its annual gross sales totaled $8.2 billion.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published on July 2, 2024.
