Sheffield United midfielder Rayner announces his departure

Sheffield United midfielder Bex Rayner has announced the news that he is leaving the club this summer.

The player took to her personal X account to announce her departure from Bramall Lane this evening.

Rayner enjoyed two spells as a Sheffield United player. She spent the 2018/2019 season with The Blades after joining the club from Doncaster Rovers Belles. She then returned for a second spell in January 2021. During her time with Sheffield United, Rayner made 81 appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Championship in which she scored 11 goals.

The player will now take on a new challenge in 2024/25 after opting to leave Bramall Lane.

Announcing her departure, Rayner said: “After four seasons at Sheffield United, I have decided now is the right time to move on.

“Everyone close to me knows how much being a Blade meant to me, and I’m proud to say that I’ve always given my all for my team. I would like to thank my teammates and staff, past and present. I really made lifelong friends and the memories we made together in a Blades shirt will always be very close to my heart.

“Joining the Hundred Club with Mads (Maddy Cusack) this year is a moment I will never forget and an achievement I am so proud of. I will always play with Mads (my nose) in my heart.

“Thank you to the fans who have always been amazing. It’s been an honor to play in front of you every week. I will really miss going out into the beautiful center of Bramall Lane and hearing ‘you fill my senses’.

“103 over and out – Once a blade, always a blade.”

Rayner is the second player to confirm his departure from Sheffield United this summer.”
