The general election takes place on Thursday 4 July and polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm.

Votes can be cast in person at a polling station, by post or by proxy vote using a trusted person. However, if you do not intend to vote in person, you must have already registered this request with Barnet Council beforehand.

New identification rules

This is the first UK general election to be held under new rules requiring voters to prove their identity. If you are voting in person at a polling station, you must bring an acceptable form of identification. These can include passports, driver’s licenses and freedom permits, as well as many others. Copies from a mobile phone or tablet will not be accepted.

A full list of acceptable ID documents can be found on the council’s website: Visit https://www.barnet.gov.uk/elections-and-voting/voter-id

Where to vote

Voting hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. All polling stations are open throughout this period and if you arrive before 10pm, you will still be able to vote even if there is a queue.

To find out where you can vote, check your polling card, which will contain details of your nearest polling station and a map. Alternatively, you can find your local polling stations on Barnet Council’s website: Visit https://www.barnet.gov. uk/elections-and-voting/voting/vote-polling-station
