Demolition plans have been revealed for the former Nuneaton Secondary School

A demolition plan has been revealed for a large part of a former secondary school in Nuneaton. It will see many of the last remaining parts of Manor Park School bulldozed to make way for new housing and a care home.

However, the MacIntyre Discovery Academy, which currently operates on the site, will not be affected by the demolition. A new map highlights the old secondary school buildings that are due to operate.

The map is part of a planning application seeking the go-ahead for demolitions to begin. If given the go-ahead, it marks the end of an educational era in the city.

Manor Park Community School is steeped in local history. It was originally a grammar school but changed status to an all-ability high school before becoming a community school in 1996.

But it closed in 2010 when its pupils joined those at the former Alderman Smith School in Stockingford, which became Nuneaton Academy, but its buildings in Beaumont Road have remained in place – until now.

Under plans by Warwickshire County Council, a large part of the old school will be demolished. It will see up to 123 units – 46 houses, 12 flats and a further two and three storey care unit of up to 65 units built on the site.
