£52million ex-Leicester City midfielder ‘offered’ to Celtic as Brendan Rodgers reunion looks set

Wilfred Ndidi could soon be wearing the green and white of Celtic as he has expressed an interest in reuniting with former boss Brendan Rodgers.

Ndidi, a midfield dynamo who caught the eye of Manchester United and Real Madrid during his outstanding performances in the Premier League, is yet to commit to a new deal with the Foxes after helping them regain promotion to the top flight.

He joined Leicester from Genk in 2017 and under the guidance of the Northern Irishman Rodgers has produced some of his best football. The Hoops were informed on Monday night of Ndidi’s interest in moving to Glasgow for another spell under Rodgers.

Speaking to the Leicester Mercury in April 2023, Rodgers did not mince his words when it came to praising Ndidi: “He is obviously a player who has good athletic ability and works very hard.”

Rodgers also explained the type of player he values, saying: “I always have that type of player, a clear player, in control of the game. Sometimes I’m a defensive guy like him who can really press the game and play simple. , or sometimes, is a more creative player, a player from the back. He’s got so much talent and he’s been very impressive that type of player there, he’s very important,” reports the Daily Record.

The potential stumbling block to any deal could be wages, with Premier League clubs including Everton showing interest, Celtic may not be able to compete with the millions on offer. However, the prospect of Champions League football could be an enticing factor for the Nigerian player.
