Sheffield Wednesday confirm their latest signing with a little help from Disney

Sheffield Wednesday have continued their transfer business since the start of the summer by completing the capture of Polish Youth International Olaf Kobacki.

The 22-year-old winger becomes Danny Rohl’s sixth signing as the Owls aim for a better start to the season than they endured last time out as the newly promoted side struggled to find their feet in the Championship EFL.

Local outlet The Star previously reported that the winger was close to signing, and now it’s been confirmed that the club have been hot on their social media to announce his arrival with a somewhat quirky rendition of a Disney favourite.

Playing off his name, Olaf, allowed the creative team to flex their muscles and combine his signature announcement alongside the characters of the popular animated movie Frozen.

Meanwhile, the club were more official with their statement: “On Wednesday we are delighted to announce the signing of Olaf Kobacki for an undisclosed fee from Polish side Arka Gdynia. The 22-year-old began his career at Lech Poznan’s academy before moving to Serie A side Atalanta in 2017.

“He now joins Danny Röhl’s squad as the club’s sixth addition of the summer transfer window. Welcome to Hillsborough, Olaf!”

Kobacki has a decent CV to lean on and had a hand in either scoring or assisting 23 goals for Arka Gdinya last season, he will be hoping to continue that form. He was capped by all of the Polish national youth networks, earning 32 appearances at U16-U20 level, scoring five times.

Wednesday fans may not have to wait long to see their new man as they play their first pre-season friendly this weekend against Alfreton Town.

The writer’s vision

It may be cold enough in the winter months to build a snowman, but Kobacki has a chance to settle in and warm the hearts and minds of Hillsborough folk. Having spent the early part of his youth career at Atalanta, he has clearly caught the eye of many scouts. Rohl is building a decent team and having young players in the mix is always a good sign.

Time will tell if it’s a success or if they urge the club to do it Let it go.
