Manchester United sacking news live as Sir Jim Racliffe cuts 250 jobs

Manchester United staff are bracing for a worrying few days after Sir Jim Ratcliffe prepares to sack 250 of the club’s staff this summer.

Staff at the Old Trafford club were informed of the decision to cut jobs on Wednesday, but at this stage it is unclear which staff will lose their jobs. The job losses are believed to be instigated by Ratcliffe, who previously warned he inherited a host of “bad surprises” when he secured a minority stake in the Reds in February.

“I see the problem as an opportunity,” he told The Times. “There are so many opportunities to improve a lot of Manchester United everywhere we look, which is a good thing.”

United had the biggest player wage bill in the Premier League last season. However, despite Profitability and Sustainability (PSR) rules, the Reds were not forced to sell before the deadline of Sunday 30 June.
