The hairstylist warns “don’t make this mistake” if you want to avoid greasy hair

A hairstylist has warned people that there is one thing they should avoid if they want to use a serum.

Taking to TikTok, Matt aka @mattloveshair said that many people make the common mistake of applying it wrong and therefore assume that the serum just doesn’t work for their hair and makes it greasy. But in all likelihood it will work for your hair, provided it is suitable for your hair type and you apply it correctly.

The expert explains that when applying a serum, never use it directly from the bottle. He advises: “Don’t put the serum directly from the bottle onto your hands and then onto your hair. If you do that, you’ll think it makes your hair greasy.”

He says, “You have to break the product until it’s so thin on your palms.” He rubs it for a good few seconds. He says, “You want it bright and clear on your palms” going down.

Instead of applying it to the roots, unless directed otherwise, you should slowly take the ends of your hair and work it in a downward motion. As they say, less is more. The more product you use, the more work you’ll have to do – and that’s another reason why your hair can end up looking greasy.

His advice comes as another hair professional, known as @rhysandhair, asked the question: “Why do clients still feel compelled to wash their hair before coming in for an appointment? I had two alone this morning. Not only is it a waste of their time, but loves, I want your dirty hair. I want your greasy hair.

“Not only is it my job to wash your hair and make it clean and shiny and smelling good, but those oils in your scalp protect your scalp against color. We put chemicals on your head and this oil and dirt and that little build up. -up protects your hair.”

When a client comes in with clean hair, he says they “get a slap on the wrist from me.” Addressing people in his industry, he adds, “Make sure you educate your clients, you don’t want them coming in with clean hair, especially when you’re about to do a color service.”
