Woman arrested for ‘drink driving’ after crashing outside primary school

A woman crashed her car outside a primary school just as pupils were about to leave for the next day.

Emergency services were called to Score Lane in Childwall just before 3pm today, July 3. The crash happened outside Rudston Primary School on Rudston Road.

The woman climbed the curb and hit the school sign near the gate where students leave the school on Score Lane.

Merseyside Police said a woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving. No injuries were reported, police said.

Kieron Coogan, 64, whose grandchildren attend the school, said he saw the aftermath of the crash after returning from the co-op. Kieron told the ECHO: “It was after 3 o’clock and school let out at a quarter past three.

“If it had been another quarter of an hour it would have been total devastation. There would have been children coming out (of school). The woman was still behind the wheel, but she seemed conscious.”
