A 10-year-old girl has been killed in a house fire in Bradford, which her mother and brothers – aged three, six and 11



A 10-year-old girl who tragically died in a devastating house fire that her mother and three siblings managed to escape has been named.

The baby girl, Eliza, was killed in the fire in Bradford, West Yorkshire, at 1am on Sunday.

The inferno took over the bedroom she shared with her two sisters, aged 11 and six, who managed to escape with their two-year-old brother and mother.

Eliza’s 37-year-old mother was pulled from the property and rushed to hospital with the other three survivors, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Tributes have started pouring in for the little girl who died in the fire.

A heartwarming note left on a floral tribute at the scene said: “Thinking and praying for you all at this time of terrible loss and grief.”

West Yorkshire Police were called at 1.05am after a fire broke out at the family’s home in West Yorkshire.

The survivors were rushed to hospital, but police said the girl died at the scene.

The children’s father, a professor at a college in Bradford, was not at the property at the time of the tragedy.

Neighbors laid flowers and paid tribute.

Yesterday, one said: “I am devastated to hear that there has been a tragedy.”

Another neighbor said her daughter used to play with the deceased girl and her younger brother in the back garden.

“Just a few days ago he was playing with them on the slide they have in their garden, they were playing with the ball and in the street,” the neighbor said.

“They are a wonderful family. Dad is a teacher in Bradford and would always say ‘hello’ and ask us how we were doing.

A cordon is currently in place at the scene and police are working with fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire which left the family’s home damaged.

“My daughter is so sad that she lost her friend.”

A neighbor said: “I said this was the girls’ bedroom – I called the fire brigade. I didn’t know they had already released three. The firemen entered directly.

Now, more tributes have appeared on social media for the young girl.

Laura Reast simply said, “Broken heart.”

Meanwhile, Mavis Plany Woolley added: “Bless the child that died poor soul.” Dawn Forshaw wrote: “So very upsetting, rest in peace.”

Ann Hamilton then said: “So sad. X’.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious by police.

Detective Chief Inspector Zaheer Abbas of Bradford District Police said: “This is an absolutely tragic incident where a young child has lost her life, our thoughts are with her family at this time.

“Our investigation with the fire department found the fire to be non-suspicious. The family are being supported by specially trained officers, a file is now to be prepared for the coroner in due course.’

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it sent three crews, two from Bradford and one from Shipley, who used two hose reels and four breathing apparatus to the scene.

A police spokesman said: “At 1.08am this morning police were called by firefighters to reports of a serious house fire in Kingsdale Drive, Bradford.

‘A woman and three children were able to escape the property and were taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not life-threatening.

“A fourth child was found at the address and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“A scene is currently at the address and police are working with fire investigators to establish the exact cause of the fire.”
