Wakefield Trinity prop Josh Bowden is set to leave as the Championship club move

Wakefield Trinity prop Josh Bowden will leave the club at the end of the season to sign for another Championship club. Rugby League Live can reveal that the former Hull FC striker will not be staying at the West Yorkshire club beyond the end of the season when his contract expires.

Instead, he is set to join another Yorkshire club, Doncaster, as part of their recruitment drive ahead of the 2025 season. Bowden, 32, has spent his entire career in Super League before the current campaign , playing for the Black and Whites for eleven seasons early in his career.

He joined Wakefield midway through the 2022 season and, after being part of the side that were relegated from Super League at the end of last year, signed a new one-year deal to help the club into the Championship. Bowden has missed just one game in all competitions this season and has started every league game so far this year.

But with Wakefield embarking on a strong recruitment drive next year, currently led by Tom Johnstone and Mike McMeeken, some spending is inevitable and Bowden will be one of them.

He will join a Doncaster side that already has a healthy number of former Hull FC players in the squad. Bureta Faraimo, Joe Lovodua and Reece Lyne are currently part of the Dons squad, who are coached by a Black and White fan favorite in Richard Horne.

Doncaster are in their first season back in the Championship and are currently eighth in the table, just one point off the play-offs and three points clear of the relegation places.
