What time will the results of the general election be declared in Birmingham

Birmingham will go to the polls in less than two days to decide who will be their next representatives in the Houses of Parliament. Voting will take place across the city from 7am to 10pm on Thursday (July 4), with 10 seats up for grabs in Edgbaston, Erdington, Hall Green and Moseley, Hodge Hill and Solihull North, Ladywood, Northfield, Perry Barr, Selly Oak, Sutton Coldfield and Yardley.

But those who will be watching the Birmingham results live had better stock up on coffee as they have a long night ahead of them. Counting for nine of the 10 constituencies will take place at the International Convention Center (ICC) in Centenary Square, while Sutton will be counted at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall.

Birmingham City Council said the count would begin at around 11pm on Thursday night, but results were not expected before midnight.

A first result could come in around 1am, but earlier election counts saw bleary-eyed candidates waiting to find out if they were elected or not at 6am on Friday morning.

Factors such as low or high voter turnout or the need for recounts in hotly contested seats could impact when the results are finally declared.

Voters are reminded that they will need to show photo ID at local polling stations when they show up to vote.
